Helen Brown
Ngāi Tahu Historian and Author

Helen's topic was Māori settlement in Ōtautahi/Christchurch and the greater Canterbury region with particular reference to Ngāi Tahu land settlement. However, she unfortunately ran out of time and because what we had heard was so good, there was a lot of interest in asking her to come back to finish it off. The good news is that she has agreed :-)
In the meantime Helen has sent us links to further information about the history of the Ngai Tahi land settlement and they are below for anyone who would like to learn more. I have had a quick peruse and at first glance they look well worth exploring:
1. Ngāi Tahu Digital Atlas – Kā Huru Manu
Homepage | Cultural Mapping Project (kahurumanu.co.nz)
2. Ngāi Tahu Archive Database
https://kareao.nz/
3. Ngāi Tahu bookstore (for recommended titles on Ngāi Tahu culture and history):
Shop | Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (ngaitahu.iwi.nz)
4. Also attached is a small booklet which gives a very brief overview of the story of Te Tiriti ki te Manuao Herara Herald-Bunbury sheet of Te Tiriti and the Ngāi Tahu rangatira who signed.
